Susan B. Thompson Promoted to District 15 Supervisor in DOC’s Division’s of Probation & Parole
Kentucky Department of Corrections Director of Probation & Parole Tim Carman today announced that Susan B. Thompson has been promoted to District 15 Supervisor. The district includes Boyd, Bracken, Carter, Elliott, Fleming, Greenup, Johnson, Lawrence, Lewis, Martin, Mason and Morgan counties in eastern Kentucky. Her promotion was effective April 16th.
A native of the district, Thompson grew up in Greenup County. In her new position she will be supervising a staff of 25.
“Susan Thompson has demonstrated the skills and leadership qualities necessary to meet the constantly evolving challenges presented in today’s correctional and personnel climate,” said Carman. “She is a graduate of the Commissioner’s Leadership Program, has served well as an assistant supervisor and possesses the integrity and skills needed to move her district forward. We are glad to have the opportunity to promote a person who has been and will continue to be a true asset to this division and department.”
Thompson earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology at Morehead State University in 1996 and a master’s degree in criminology from Morehead in 1999. She completed a practicum at the Catlettsburg Probation and Parole Office in 1999 while working on her master’s degree.
Initially, Thompson worked as a senior counselor at Transitions, a halfway house in Ashland in 2000 and 2001. She was hired as a probation and parole officer in August 2001 in the Catlettsburg Probation and Parole Office. Thompson was awarded the District’s Achievement Award in 2005 and a year later she completed the Commissioner’s Executive Leadership Program. She was promoted to assistant supervisor in the newly formed District 15 in August 2006 and is currently serving on the Division’s Compliance Team for Accreditation.
