KCIW Correctional Officers Face Charges
Pewee Valley, KY – On April 4, two probationary correctional officers employed at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women were served criminal summons from the Shelby County Attorney’s office. Allegations of sexual misconduct with an inmate resulted in charges against both officers.
Darren Watkins has been charged with 2nd degree sexual abuse, a Class A misdemeanor which is in accordance with Corrections Policy 3.22-Staff Sexual Misconduct and KRS 510.120. Terrance Williams has been charged with 2nd degree Official Misconduct which is a Class B misdemeanor.
The charges are a result of a three week investigation conducted by Internal Affairs Officer Wes Dawson in conjunction with Kentucky State Police. “Unfortunately, these situations do happen and it’s important that we deal with them swiftly and efficiently”, said Dawson.
On April 3, Darren Watkins’ employment was terminated for failure to satisfactorily complete his probationary period. Terrance Williams is on administrative leave until further notice.
