Dunn Promoted to Executive Staff Advisor
Frankfort, KY – Department of Corrections Commissioner John D. Rees today announced the promotion of John Dunn as executive staff advisor. Dunn has served as a program administrator at Central Office since January of this year supervising the home incarceration and reentry programs. In his new role, he will serve as the Department’s ombudsman and monitor the ACA accreditation process. “I have watched John over the past 14 months and he has shown tremendous responsibility, hard work and perseverance,” said Rees. “John will use his institutional and administrative experience well in monitoring grievances from throughout the Department.” Dunn began his Corrections career in April 1993. His first DOC position was at Northpoint Training Center as a Correctional Officer. In 1999, he was promoted to classification and treatment officer I at Northpoint, and two years later was promoted to an administrative specialist III position at the prison. In 2004, he was promoted to a classification and treatment officer II at Frankfort Career and Development Center, a position he held until he came to work at Central Office. He also served 21 years in the National Guard and retired in February 2006 after achieving the rank of major. Dunn is a 1990 graduate of the University of Kentucky where he received his bachelor’s degree in history. He is a member of the American Correctional Association, Correctional Accreditation Managers’ Association and the National Guard Association. He and his wife Anna reside in Frankfort.
