Contract Employee Arrested

Frankfort, KY – A Kentucky State Penitentiary contract employee, Shelia Samples, was arrested by Kentucky State Police at approximately 2:45 p.m. on January 11.  Samples has been charged with Promoting Contraband.

During an investigation for illegal drugs launched by the prison’s internal affairs department, Samples, who is the Assistant Director of Food Service, admitted to bringing marijuana into the prison in December. Samples told investigators that she concealed the drugs on her body to avoid detection and then gave them to an inmate food service worker.

Due to additional information provided to the prison’s Internal Affairs investigators, a search of the inmate’s property was conducted. A small quantity of marijuana was found in his possession and the inmate has been placed in administrative segregation pending final results of the investigation.
