Frankfort, KY, January 05, 2005: Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today the upcoming “Bucks for Broadband” Summit on Federal and State Resources for Community Broadband Deployment for Kentucky legislators, county judge executives, mayors, and community economic development organizations. The summit will be held on Wednesday, January 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Frankfort Convention Center.

The event will bring several key federal policy-makers to Frankfort, whose presence in
Kentucky represents an unprecedented slate of speakers on the topic of technology based economic development. The slate of presenters for the Summit include: Kevin Martin, Federal Communications Commissioner; Hilda Gay Legg, Administrator of the Rural Utilities Service; Michael Gallagher, Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, NTIA; and Anne Pope, Federal Co-Chair of the Appalachian Regional Commission.

“The assembly of these federal and state agency resources supports my administration’s Prescription for Innovation and will help empower communities in every part of Kentucky to tactically plan for high speed Internet access and improved computer adoption,” said Governor Fletcher. “More importantly, the summit will support local leaders by providing critical information for funding broadband infrastructure and general technology investments.”
