WEEKLY UPDATE FROM THE CORPS – 2/26

 

Lake level was at 684.30’ as of noon March 2, 2007. Corp website says their (original)

goal is to get the level down to 680.5 by Saturday.

Several new news items appear at the end of this newsletter.

 

 

 

RAMP CONDITIONS ACCORDING TO THE CORPS:

The following Corps operated and Commercial Marina boat ramps are usable at or near the target elevation 680” (* these ramps are monitored closely; conditions are subject to change)

LAKE CUMBERLAND PHOTOS WANTED

We are looking for photos of Lake Cumberland at the 680’ level. We will use the photos to show people the lake has plenty of water. We want photos taken since the lake settled at 680’ on 2/12 or after. When sending your photo please acknowledge that you are letting us use the photos free of charge and we have your permission to do so.

Media will tour Wolf Creek Dam

Reporters are going to see for themselves the condition of Wolf Creek Dam and view firsthand the repair work now underway. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Nashville District, will hold a Media Day at Wolf Creek Dam and Powerhouse in Russell County on March 8.

Dam repair schedule could be shortened

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has good news for the “Ohio Navy” and business people in the Lake Cumberland area who serve the tourist industry. Corps officials say they are trying to shorten by two years the time it takes to rehabilitate Wolf Creek Dam.

APSU GIS Center working on Wolf Creek Dam flooding

 

 

Since concerns have arisen about the possibility of the Wolf Creek Dam failing, Austin Peay State University's GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Center's Web site has been getting about 1,300 visitors per day, according to Mike Wilson, manager of the GIS Center.

Lake Cumberland Faces Uncertain Tourism Season
BOWLING GREEN (2007-03-02) Tourism leaders are aggressively promoting the Lake Cumberland region, hoping to offset negative perceptions ahead of the summer tourism season. The lake remains 43 feet below normal summer pool to allow for repair work to Wolf Creek Dam. Lisa Autry visited the region and has this report.
