If you’ve wanted to try your hand at rock climbing, but don’t know where to start, Torrent Falls Climbing Adventure, Aug. 18-19, may have the perfect option. Located in the heart of the Red River Gorge, Torrent Falls Climbing Adventures will hold a two-day rock climbing clinic the third weekend in August.
This clinic is designed to introduce beginners into the sport of rock climbing in a safe, fun manner. Belay techniques, knot tying, lead climbing and anchors will all be covered over the course of the weekend, as well as other topics as time allows. Reservations and deposits are required to participate in the clinic and may be made by calling 606-668-6613.
Classes begin at 9 a.m. each morning and generally last between six and eight hours. All guides are certified by the American Mountain Guides Association and are trained in wilderness first aid. Torrent Falls is also home to the first via ferrata in the United States. One of the most popular attractions in the area, the via ferrata is a system of cables that assists climbers with the use of specialized gear. There are a number of courses covering a range of difficulties. For pricing of the climbing clinic, the via ferrata, or to learn more about all the high altitude adventure at Torrent Falls, check out the website at www.torrentfalls.com.
