Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet Agencies Head to State Fair Aug. 19-29
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Visitors to the 2010 Kentucky State Fair will get a chance to “ride” a boat, learn about their favorite state park or travel destination and get a dose of Kentucky history.
Several agencies in the Tourism, Arts and Heritage Cabinet will have booths at the 2010 Kentucky State Fair in Louisville Aug. 19-29.
Here’s a list of the agencies and what they have planned:
Kentucky Historical Society
The Kentucky Historical Society HistoryMobile, a mobile museum featuring an exhibit on Abraham Lincoln, will be at the state fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Thursday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 29. The HistoryMobile will be located in the Main Street area in the South Wing of the Kentucky Exposition Center. State fair-goers are encouraged to visit the HistoryMobile, which explores Lincoln's frontier childhood, his career from log house to the White House and his struggles to end slavery and lead the nation through the Civil War. This experience is free.
Kentucky State Parks
The Kentucky State Parks will host a booth in the South Wing. Brochures for the 51 parks, camping information, information on upcoming Fall events, along with fall lodge and cottage coupons will be available. The parks will also be holding drawings for free overnight stays, free camping and free golf.
Department of Travel and Tourism
The Department of Travel and Tourism will have free Visitor Guides and highway maps at its South Wing booth. There will also be information about The Kentucky Experience at the 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games at the Kentucky Horse Park Sept. 25-Oct. 10. Tourism representatives will answer questions about Kentucky tourism attractions and events.
Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources
The Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will have a booth in the South Wing where guests can purchase hunting and fishing licenses, test their skills using a hunting simulator, see snakes and fish and get the feel of a boat on the water with a boat simulator.
Office of Adventure Tourism
Brochures for various adventure tourism opportunities from across the state will be available in the South Wing. Staff will be able to answer questions about adventure destinations in Kentucky.
