UK Baseball Coach John Cohen To Speak At Bluegrass State Games Opening Ceremonies

Frankfort, KY – University of Kentucky baseball coach John Cohen will be the guest speaker at the 2006 Bluegrass State Games Opening Ceremonies.  Ceremonies will be held Friday, July 21 at UK Shively Track beginning at 5:30. 

Members of the Kentucky Chapter of NFL Players Association will be on hand to sign autographs at the track from 6 to 7 p.m.  Scheduled to attend are Oliver Barnett, Jerry Blanton, Lester Boyd, Joe Federspiel, Kelly Kirchbaum, Marty Moore, Derrick Ramsey and Felix Wilson.

In only his third season at Kentucky, Cohen was named the 2006 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year and National Coach of the Year by the College Baseball Foundation.  His Bat Cats rewrote the record books during a historic 2006 campaign, racking up a school-record 44 wins and notching the first SEC Championship in school history.

Festivities will begin at the track at 5:30 p.m. including food, music and inflatable games. 

All Bluegrass State Games athletes are encouraged to participate in the Parade of Athletes at 7:30. 

Individual registration to participate in the Games will still be accepted at Opening Ceremonies.
