FRANKFORT, Ky. – There are plenty of outdoor adventures all across Kentucky during January and February of 2011.

 

Wildlife viewing, horseback riding, ziplines and ATV riding are just a few of the events scheduled to kick off the new year. Along with hundreds of miles of trails, fishing, caving and other adventures make Kentucky a great place to be any time of the year.

Wildlife and Nature Watches at Kentucky’s State Parks

There are a number of exciting wildlife and nature watches being offered at Kentucky State Parks this winter. Winter Upgrades and Additions at Mammoth Cave Adventures

The course is getting an upgrade over the Christmas break with two additional zip lines and a Tarzan swing. There is a four-line family course and a six-line course for adults.  Each line will vary in length, height and speed. The tour was limited before by a minimum weight limit; with the addition of the family course there will be no weight or age limit.  Children under 18 will need an adult/parental consent.  Come join us in the coming months at Mammoth Cave Adventures for ziplining, horseback riding and camping. Equestrian Trail Summit

The Kentucky Horse Council’s Annual Trail Riders Conference will provide riders in Kentucky the opportunity to learn, network and discuss current issues involving the equine industry.  The keynote speaker at this year’s conference will be Dr. Gene Wood, Professor Emeritus, from Clemson University.  There will be sessions for recreational riders, trail managers and officials and new this year, sessions for novice riders.  For room reservations contact Barren River State Resort Park at 800-325-0057 by Dec. 29, 2010 and ask for the group rate.  There are also cottages available at the park.  For more information contact Ginny Grulke at

Guided Ride on Wilderness Trail Off-Road Park hosted by Marty’s ATV Oasis

Marty’s ATV Oasis will be hosting group rides the first Saturday of each month, November through April.  There will be a campfire and beverages (Coffee, Cocoa, & Tea) beginning at 10 a.m. at “Area B”.  The rides leave promptly at 11 a.m.  Bring your own food, snacks and lunch.  There will also be beverages and another campfire midway through the ride.  Rides will take place regardless of weather, and riders are asked to park in “Area C.”  There is no cost, but donations will be accepted. Bernheim Arboretuem & Research forest continues their popular event series.  From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday come by Bernheim to see how flint can be used to make ancient weapons such as arrowheads, spears, knives and many other tools.  There will be modern replicas and pre-historic artifacts. ECO Kids Discovery Days: Naked Trees

The Every Child Outdoors program has been actively encouraging kids to spend time outdoors and learn about the world they are living in.  In this outing kids will compare naked (without leaves) trees throughout the park.  There will be a variety of trees to inspect in the “On your own Challenge” that begins at 9 a.m.  ECO kids programs are free for Bernheim members, and included in the price of admission for non members.  Contact Susan Ritter at 502-955-8512.

Winter Adventure Weekend
