ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. (Oct. 19, 2004) – Area teens with disabilities will explore job opportunities on Wednesday, Oct. 20, during Disability Mentoring Day at UPS Supply Chain Solutions, Inc.

National Disability Mentoring Day is a partnership between the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) and the U.S. Department of Labor. Locally, the event is sponsored by the Kentucky Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs. The young people will have an opportunity to job shadow and learn about interviewing skills, writing resumes and school performance. They will also learn about job opportunities with UPS and the benefits available to employees of the company.

UPS is at 800 N. Blackbranch Road.

The goal of Disability Mentoring Day is to allow young people with disabilities the opportunity to explore different types of jobs and to examine their own educational and career goals. Employers will have one-on-one contact with youth with disabilities, giving the employer an opportunity to learn how valuable people with disabilities can be as potential employees.

The Commission for Children with Special Health Care Needs serves children with physical disabilities from birth to age 21 with care coordination, clinical and therapeutic services. The Commission coordinates the Newborn Hearing Screening program as well as the Kentucky Hemophilia and Sickle Cell programs. For more information about the Commission please call (270) 765-6982 or (800) 995-6982, or visit the Web site at http://chs.ky.gov/commissionkids.
