 Search Committee Named for Kentucky’s Public Health Commissioner

            FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 15, 2004) - A search committee to select Kentucky’s next commissioner of public health has been named, Health and Family Services Undersecretary for Health Mark D. Birdwhistell announced today.

            The first meeting of the committee is Aug. 3, 2004. It will focus on the development of a modernized position description, defining necessary qualifications and identifying the most effective recruitment techniques.

“Kentucky’s public health commissioner will be a dynamic force in helping transform the entire public health delivery system, and will be instrumental in improving the health for all Kentuckians,” said Undersecretary Birdwhistell, who will chair the committee.

The search was announced after Dr. Rice Leach announced his retirement at the end of July. The acting commissioner is Dr. William Hacker.
