Crit Luallen, Kentucky State Auditor announced today the hiring of former Kentucky State Senator Joe Meyer from Covington. Senator Meyer is joining the Auditor's Office as a policy advisor.
"Joe has a wealth of experience that will be invaluable to the Auditor's office. Not only did he spend fifteen years in the Kentucky General Assembly, but also worked for House Leadership and was chairman of a school board. It is this wide range of experience that makes him such a catch for this office," Ms. Luallen said.
Senator Meyer's duties will center on legislative initiatives and working closely with Kentucky's General Assembly. Meyer, a graduate of Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University, will also assist the Auditor's legal team, especially in Constitutional matters. In addition, he will work as a liaison with local elected officials throughout the Commonwealth.
"The opportunity to return to Frankfort to work for Crit Luallen at the Auditor's Office is something I couldn't pass up. In this time of economic insecurity and tight budgets it is very important that government get everything it can out of the taxpayer's money. I tried to protect those hard working Kentuckians when I was in the legislature and I look forward to helping Ms. Luallen do the same in the Auditor's Office", Meyer said.
In addition to being a State Senator from 1989 - 1996, he served in the State House from 1982 - 1988. This past legislative session he served as chief of staff for House Majority Caucus Chair Jim Callahan. Meyer lobbied for significant Northern Kentucky businesses like Corporex, Newport on the Levee, and Carroll Properties, as well as the City of Covington. He was a member of the Covington Public School Board and chairman of the Board of the Covington Latin School for the past two years.
Senator Meyer's first day will be July 16.
