OFI ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO EVALUATE FINANCES
Financial Planning Week™ is a good time to review accounts, plan ahead
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 28, 2007) – Governor Ernie Fletcher has declared Oct. 1-7 as Financial Planning Week™ in Kentucky. In honor of this, the Kentucky Office of Financial Institutions (OFI) urges citizens to take this time to review personal accounts and ensure finances are in line for achieving future goals.
“Financial Planning Week provides an excellent opportunity to remind ourselves how important it is to check our finances,” said OFI Executive Director Cordell Lawrence. “While it’s true that any time is a good time to review your statements, pay off a credit card, open a savings account or update your investment portfolio, this week serves as a reminder to those of us who have not done so lately.”
According to the national Financial Planning Association®, financial planning is the process of wisely managing one’s finances to achieve certain goals and dreams, while at the same time helping to negotiate financial barriers that may arise. The association has designed Financial Planning Week to bring together those who need, support and deliver financial planning.
Governor Ernie Fletcher signed the proclamation at the request of the Kentuckiana Chapter of the Financial Planning Association.
The proclamation states, “Financial planning empowers individuals to identify and manage realistic financial goals, helping them prepare for the future and providing them with the resources necessary to achieve their dreams and aspirations.” It further states, “Students who learn sound financial planning are better equipped to manage their resources when they enter the work force.”
