More Women and Minorities Hired in the Fletcher Administration Than in the Previous Administration at this Point
Frankfort, KY: Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today that his administration has met and exceeded employment goals for both female and minority hires. Just this week, the State Equal Opportunity Office has announced that the Governor’s Office has been awarded the Governor’s Affirmative Action Achiever Award for this effort.
“My administration has always been committed to hiring the best, brightest, and most capable people to help me lead this Commonwealth,” stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. “This administration has maintained a focus on female and minority hiring, and we are continuing to work to provide more opportunities to every Kentuckian.”
The state goal for female hiring is 52.2%, which the Office of the Governor has greatly exceeded at 63.9% as of June 30. The goal for minority hiring is 7.52% which has also been exceeded by the Office of the Governor at 9.84% as of the same date.
Also, to date, the administration has hired more minorities at director level and above, 53 total, than the previous administration did to this date at 47 total. The administration has also hired more women at director level and above, 234 total, than the previous administration did to this date at 223 total.
“A few months ago, I made the decision to change the Office of the Governor’s minority hiring goal to 10% of total employment,” continued Governor Fletcher. “I believe these numbers illustrate that we are well on our way to achieving that mark.”
