Personnel Cabinet to Maintain High Level of Efficiency
Frankfort, KY: Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today that he is elevating the Department of Personnel to cabinet level status. The original intent of reorganization included attaching Personnel to the Governor’s office due to the importance of Commissioner Ramsey's responsibilities. This change will reflect the high level of effective and efficient services it delivers to state employees.
The Governor said this decision came after reconsideration, due to the rightful concern of some folks in the African-American community. The Governor stated, “I am announcing that we are changing the status of the Personnel Department to a cabinet. Commissioner Ramsey has agreed to this change and I am very proud of his work and know that he will continue to do an excellent job.”
Overall operations of the Personnel Cabinet will remain the same as they have throughout the administration and the reporting structure will not change, as Personnel already had cabinet level status.
“This is an excellent illustration of Governor Fletcher’s commitment to Kentucky’s minority population,” said Tierra Kavanaugh Turner, Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Minority Empowerment. “Bob Ramsey has been a member of the Governor’s Executive Cabinet since the beginning of the Fletcher administration, but the elevation of the Personnel Department to Cabinet status sends a convincing signal of the Governor’s continued dedication of ensuring that minorities are represented in high level positions within this administration.”
“Personnel is dedicated to providing exceptional services and leadership for state government human resources management,” said newly named Secretary of Personnel Bob Ramsey. “I am very appreciative of the hard work of each state employee and I look forward to continuing our vision of serving as a national model for innovative, accessible, and responsive human resources services.”
