Frankfort, KY:  Governor Ernie Fletcher emphasized his administration’s commitment to economic development and opportunity following today’s announcement that Kentucky’s annual unemployment rate dropped nearly one full percentage point over the past year.  The annual rate dipped to 5.3 percent in 2004 from 6.2 percent in 2003. The decrease in the annual unemployment rate represents the largest single-year drop since 1994.
According to the Office of Employment and Training (OET) in the Department for Workforce Investment, the statistics show employment grew for the first year since 2000.
“Bringing new jobs and new opportunity to hardworking Kentuckians is the first and foremost commitment of my administration,” said Governor Ernie Fletcher.  “While the annual unemployment rate is a positive step in the right direction, we must continue our commitment and resolve to further improve economic development in Kentucky.”
Ten of Kentucky’s 14 jobs sectors listed in the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) showed employment growth in 2004.
