$50,000 grant for purchase of new city building

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Governor Ernie Fletcher today announced a $50,000 Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) Community Fund grant to help the city of Bardwell purchase a building to serve as its new City Hall.

“This grant will move the center of government in Bardwell to a building that is safe from environmental hazards,” Governor Fletcher said. “It’s important that the business of the people goes on without interruption.”

The current Bardwell City Hall is in a flood plain and infested with brown recluse spiders. The building was flooded twice last year, taking on 8 inches of water and destroying the city’s computers.

The building also has a mold problem and requires daily maintenance to remain habitable.

The city has a building suitable to its needs and is in the process of raising money to purchase it.

“I’m happy to see this project get funded, as the current building is in dire need of replacement,” said Sen. Ken Winters (R-Murray)

GOLD is the agency responsible for administering community funds.
