Governor Ernie Fletcher Signs Baze Death Warrant
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher today signed a death warrant for Ralph Baze, Jr. The warrant sets an execution date of Sept. 25.
In December 1993, Baze was convicted of the 1992 murders of Powell County Sheriff Steve Bennett and Deputy Arthur Briscoe.
“These decisions are never easy, but justice has to be done,” said Governor Fletcher. “Ralph Baze was found guilty by a jury of his peers of murdering two law enforcement officials. His appeals have been exhausted and now it is time to carry out the penalty for his crimes. I have reviewed the case carefully and it is clear that capital punishment is warranted here.”
