Governor Fletcher Directs Flags to Half-Staff This Saturday in Honor of Lady Bird Johnson
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, July 14, in memory of Lady Bird Johnson.
"The entire nation mourns the passing of Lady Bird Johnson, whose compassion and kindness served to calm America in a time of great sadness and strife," said Governor Fletcher. "As First Lady, she worked tirelessly on the issues that she cared for deeply, especially the beautification of our highways and conservation of our national parks. She represented our country with honor and grace. May God bless her and her family."
Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Saturday, which is the day of Johnson’s interment. The Governor’s directive follows a national proclamation from President George W. Bush.
Individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies are encouraged to join in this tribute by lowering flags in honor of Johnson.
