“Glenna and I were saddened to learn this evening of the passing of one of the world’s greatest jazz musicians, Boots Randolph. Boots and his wife, Dee, were guests of ours at the 2005 Derby, and Boots performed that year at our Derby Eve Gala – a performance which was a treat for everyone who attended. A native Kentuckian, Boots’ music transcended many genres, and his performances became a mainstay on stages for decades. He was truly a musician’s musician.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Dee and the rest of Boots’ family and friends, and to his fans around the world. He will missed, especially by this fellow saxophone player and admirer.”

Statement From Kenny Bishop

“Boots was one of those great musicians all the others wanted to emulate. He was certainly a musical trendsetter. I was thrilled to know him and share the stage with him.”
