Governor Ernie Fletcher Directs Flags to be Flown at Half-Staff on Memorial Day
To ‘honor the service and sacrifice’ of military men, women
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on the morning of Monday, May 28, in observance of Memorial Day. The order follows a national directive from President George W. Bush. Flags will remain at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day.
“On this Memorial Day, we honor the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who lost their lives in defense of our freedom and liberty,” said Governor Fletcher. “They have enabled us to live in a secure and sovereign nation and we are forever grateful for their devotion and commitment. I encourage all Kentuckians to participate in ceremonies and events that honor and recognize these fallen heroes, and to continue to pray for those who are again defending this great nation.”
The president’s directive designates the hour beginning in each locality at 11 a.m. as a time to unite in prayer. A National Moment of Remembrance will be observed at 3 p.m. local time.
