FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of the victims of Monday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech. The call for flags to be lowered follows a national directive from President George W. Bush.

“Words cannot describe the senseless horror that took place on the campus of Virginia Tech,” Governor Fletcher said in a statement. “I know everyone in the Commonwealth of Kentucky joins me and the First Lady in expressing our deepest sympathies for families left to grieve and for a nation left grieving by the further shattering of innocence.”

Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on Sunday, April 22, 2007.
