Governor Ernie Fletcher Directs Flags to Remain at Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Soldier

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings remain at half-staff in honor of Cpl. Joseph H. Cantrell IV.

According to the Department of Defense, Cantrell, 23, of Ashland, died from wounds suffered April 4 in Taji, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle.  He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

Flags are currently at half-staff in honor of Spc. William G. Bowling, of Beattyville.  Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of Cantrell’s funeral, which has not yet been determined.
