Governor Ernie Fletcher Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Soldier

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of Spc. William G. Bowling.

According to the Department of Defense, Bowling, 24, of Beattyville, died April 1 in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.  He was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, N.Y.

Flags will remain at half-staff in honor of Bowling until sunset on the day of his funeral, which has not yet been determined.
