FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher today visited the Glasgow Campus of Western Kentucky University to sign House Bill 468.

HB 468 creates an exception to the standard wage requirements for the Kentucky Jobs Development Act.  The exception will apply to eligible businesses locating an economic development project adjacent to one of five regional KCTCS postsecondary education centers if the projects are likely to provide employment opportunities for students and meaningful opportunity for technological and infrastructural enhancements.  Projects qualifying for this exception will be required to pay an aggregate of wages and benefits equivalent to 200 percent of the federal minimum wage.

“This bill is an example of a truly bipartisan effort to make Kentucky a better place to live, work and raise a family,” said Governor Fletcher.  “I applaud Rep. Johnny Bell for his hard work to get this legislation passed during his first legislative session and appreciate Sen. Richie Sanders’ support in helping guide it through the process.”

“I am very proud that we worked together in a bipartisan nature to achieve something good for our community,” said Rep. Bell (D-Glasgow).  “I want to thank everyone in the House, the Senate and the Governor’s office who helped to make this opportunity possible for our district.”
