Governor Ernie Fletcher Directs Flags to Remain at Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Soldier
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings remain at half-staff in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. John E. Cooper.
According to the Department of Defense, Cooper, 29, of Ewing, died January 15 in Mosul, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Flags are currently at half-staff in honor of President Gerald R. Ford. Flags will remain at half-staff in honor of Cooper until sunset on the day of his funeral, which has not yet been determined. Flags will remain at half-staff in honor of President Ford until sunset on January 25.
