Governor Ernie Fletcher Directs Flags to Remain at Half-Staff in Honor of Kentucky Soldier
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has directed that flags at all state office buildings remain at half-staff in honor of U.S. Army Maj. Michael L. Mundell.
According to the Department of Defense, Mundell, 47, of Brandenburg, died January 5 in Fallujah, Iraq, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations. Mundell was assigned to the 1st Brigade, 108th Division (Institutional Training), Spartanburg, S.C.
Flags are currently at half-staff in honor of President Gerald R. Ford. Flags will remain at half-staff in honor of Mundell until sunset on Sunday, January 14, the day of his funeral. Flags will remain at half-staff in honor of President Ford until sunset on January 25.
