Governor Fletcher Announces $20 Million Highway Improvement Project for Cumberland County
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher announced today a project to make safety improvements to KY 90 in Cumberland County. Total funding for the project, estimated at more than $20 million, was announced today during the Governor’s visit to Burkesville.
The design/build pilot project will allow contractors to simultaneously perform work on various aspects of the project.
“The design build strategy will speed up this much needed projects by 18 to 24 months,” said Governor Fletcher. “We hope to begin work in the spring, and I look forward to coming back here to turn a few shovels of earth to begin this project.”
Senate President David L. Williams (R-Burkesville) called the project “the most important thing to happen for Cumberland County's transportation system in our lifetime.”
Three sight distance/curve improvements along KY 90 will be made as part of the project. They are the curve at KY 61 in downtown Burkesville, a curve near KY 100 and a curve near the Metcalfe County line.
