Celebration of Arts and Humanities Month at the Kentucky Center for the Arts

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) today presented a ceremonial check for $598,200 for Creative Economies at the Kentucky Center for the Arts.  Funding will be used for various performing arts entities in Jefferson County.

“October is Arts and Humanities month and is therefore a time to reflect on the importance of the arts in our communities,” said Governor Fletcher.  “This funding represents the dedication the General Assembly and I have toward the continued support these programs.”

The HB 380 line-item in the amount of $598,200 will be divided among the Actors Theatre, the Louisville Ballet, the Kentucky Opera and the Louisville Orchestra.  A percentage breakdown of the funding is as follows:

  • Actors Theatre – 23.6 percent
  • Louisville Ballet – 6.6 percent
  • Kentucky Opera – 19.5 percent
  • Louisville Orchestra – 40.2 percent

The funding will be used along with monies from Louisville Metro government and private sources as part of an overall arts stabilization initiative.  Private donations include funding from Humana, YUM Brands, Brown-Forman Corporation and the Gheens Foundation.  This collaborative effort of public and private dollars will help to ensure these art staples remain an integral component of Louisville.
