Technical college, festival receive GOLD funds

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher and the Governor’s Office for Local Development (GOLD) today announced two grants for projects in the Owensboro area.  GOLD Community Funds in the amount of $247,500 were awarded to the Owensboro Community and Technical College.  Funds will be used to purchase motor control learning systems.  Additionally, $55,000 in Community Funds have been awarded to the city of Owensboro to help with expenses related to the first International Mystery Writers’ Festival scheduled for June 12-17, 2007.

“When we create efficiencies in state government, we have more funding to put back into the community for worthy projects,” said Governor Fletcher.  “Both these projects will provide Owensboro the opportunity to showcase what the city has to offer.”

National and international live theater, television and movie producers, directors, agents and critics will be in attendance at the first International Mystery Writers' Festival, "Discovering New Mysteries,” at the RiverPark Center in Owensboro from June 12-17, 2007.  These industry leaders, guest stars and the festival's introduction of 12 new works also will bring major media coverage and recognition to Owensboro and Kentucky for the prominence of this international event.  This will be the only festival in the English-speaking world celebrating innovative theater works specializing in mysteries.

Due to streamlining and efficiency efforts in GOLD, the office had an excess of monies in its general fund.  These funds can be allocated as essential or gap funding for projects that may otherwise not be eligible for grant funding from GOLD administered programs, giving the money back to the community.

GOLD funds are given based on availability and administered by GOLD.
