Local officials attend workshops, leave with valuable information for communities

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The 31st Annual Governor’s Local Issues Conference, held September 14-15, 2006, at the Galt House East in Louisville, ended today, sending city, county and special district officials home with tools and information to strengthen their communities.  This year’s theme, Community Architects: Designing Your Future, was the focus of 34 different workshops that officials had the opportunity to attend.  Governor Ernie Fletcher was the conference’s keynote speaker.

“Each year, this conference brings experts from across the state to one location in an effort to provide local officials with top-notch training and up-to-date information,” said Governor Fletcher.  “Local officials can then go back into their community, armed with new tactics and information, and work to move their areas forward.”

The conference began on Thursday, September 14.  Office of the State Budget Director Brad Cowgill, State Auditor Crit Luallen and Executive Cabinet Secretary Robbie Rudolph were among some of the notable speakers at this year’s conference.

Session topics included grant writing, annexation, ways to diversify Kentucky’s agriculture, planning and zoning, veteran’s affairs and broadband deployment.

The Governor’s Local Issues Conference is made possible through the Kentucky Local Issues Board, a non-profit organization comprised of members from the Kentucky Association of Counties (KACo), the Kentucky Council of Area Development Districts (KYADD), the Kentucky Judge/Executives Association (KJEA), the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) and the Commissioners and Magistrates Association (CMA).
