Governor Ernie Fletcher Declares State of Emergency in Kentucky
Governor, General Storm tour storm-damaged areas
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher has issued an executive order declaring a state of emergency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The order comes after communities were struck by high winds and tornados Sunday evening.
Governor Fletcher and Adjutant General Donald C. Storm toured some of the heaviest hit areas around Christian County this afternoon.
“The devastation to parts of Kentucky is tremendous, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those who are suffering as a result of this storm, as well as to those families in Tennessee who have lost loved ones,” said Governor Fletcher. “This is the third time we have had tornado destruction in Kentucky in the last five months, pointing to the need to make sure we have a significant ‘rainy day fund.’”
Through the executive order, Governor Fletcher directed the Kentucky National Guard to be on standby to send troops to impacted areas as needed.
In addition, the declaration directs the Division of Emergency Management to execute the Kentucky Emergency Operations Plan, coordinating the response and relief activities of all state agencies and private relief organizations in response to the emergency.
