Frankfort, KY:  Last week’s organizational session of the general assembly produced at least one consensus among legislators of both political parties.  The state’s new brand, Kentucky Unbridled Spirit, is a big hit.

Kentuckians overwhelmingly selected Unbridled Spirit late last year during a contest orchestrated by Governor Ernie Fletcher.  More than 55,000 people cast votes during the process.

Overall, members of the General Assembly from both parties agreed that Unbridled Spirit is the perfect brand for Kentucky because it is a great representation of what the state has to offer.

“I think it’s very positive,” said Rep. Harry Moberly, D-Richmond.  “I don’t think there could have been anything better and I think it will resonate very well with the public.”

House member Rep. Thomas McKee, D-Cynthiana, echoed Moberly’s words.  “I believe Unbridled Spirit lets people know what a great place Kentucky is and the spirit we have to attract new business and economic growth.”

On the west side of the State Capitol, Unbridled Spirit was welcomed warmly by both Senate Democrats and Republicans.

Sen. Johnny Ray Turner, D-Drift, said he really liked the brand.  “We are the horse state and I believe the Unbridled Spirit logo really fits us well.”

Sen. Gary Tapp, R-Waddy, said the message of Unbridled Spirit is important to not only residents of Kentucky, but to those outside the state as well.  “I believe Unbridled Spirit really speaks well for the people of Kentucky,” said Sen. Tapp. “It really shows how Kentucky and its people are willing to step out and do things differently.”

Rep. John Vincent, R-Ashland, agreed. “I think it’s a nice, positive and fresh approach to marketing the state.  The result of Unbridled Spirit will send out a good message to the rest of the nation.”

Many state lawmakers have Unbridled Spirit bumper stickers on their personal vehicles and have made bumper stickers available to their constituents.

Anyone may request a free bumper sticker by going online at, or by sending a request to:  Kentucky Unbridled Spirit, 700 Capital Avenue, Frankfort, KY 40601.  In addition, branded merchandise, such as hats, T-shirts and sweatshirts is available for sale online. Merchandise will also be available in retail stores in the near future.
