| Frankfort, KY: Today, Governor Ernie Fletcher announced the organization of a new strategy to capitalize on economic opportunities in the bioscience and emerging technology fields. Current Secretary of the Executive Cabinet, Dr. Allyson Handley, will now serve as a policy advisor to the Governor and Dr. Tom Layzell, President of the Council for Postsecondary Education on matters relating to life sciences and new technology. In her new capacity, Handley will serve as the liaison between life sciences capitalists, state government and the Council on Postsecondary Education. “Allyson’s existing relationships with public and private universities, as well as her thorough understanding of this field and the potential economic development opportunities it presents is a tremendous asset to Kentucky taxpayers and my administration,” said Governor Fletcher.
Handley is a former Midway College president who has expertise in the life sciences arena. “I’m honored and excited,” said Handley. “This role allows me to focus my energies on bioscience and postsecondary education.” A new Secretary of the Executive Cabinet will be named at a later date.
