Frankfort, KY - Governor Ernie Fletcher, along with Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Gene Strong and Commissioner of New Business Development John McCarty, completed a successful economic development trip to Europe yesterday. The delegation visited Spain, Italy and Germany and returned buoyed by a productive and informative visit to each of these countries.
In addition to re-cementing relations with several major investors, Governor Fletcher discussed possible expansion plans with a number of companies with existing locations in Kentucky. Furthermore, the governor met with several companies considering investments in the United States, and offered important business associations and manufacturing groups a tailored presentation of what Kentucky can offer European investors. The reaction was positive from all present.
As a result of the trip and the governor’s invitation to European companies to visit Kentucky, the Commonwealth has the potential to generate several hundred jobs across the state in the upcoming months.
“I am confident that last week’s European economic development trip will produce great results for the Commonwealth,” stated Governor Fletcher. “After meeting with economic development officials from Spain, Italy, Germany and representatives from numerous companies, I have reason to believe that this trip will produce new opportunities in Kentucky.”
"The Governor and First Lady made a strong and very positive impression on those with whom they visited,” stated Secretary Strong. “I have no doubt that this trip enhanced Kentucky’s stature among those companies and organizations they visited, and will serve us well in the months to come.”
Paul Pilkauskas, the new Director of Kentucky’s European Representative Office in Brussels, Belgium also accompanied the delegation during the visit and noted that the Governor’s visit opened new doors for the European representative office to explore in order to initiate more business for Kentucky.
