Frankfort, KY: The Office of Governor Ernie Fletcher and Transportation Secretary Maxwell Clay Bailey today announced the appointment of Mike Goins to the position of Executive Director of the Office of Public Affairs for the Transportation Cabinet.

“Mike has an extensive background in the communications field and he will make an excellent addition to Secretary Bailey’s staff,” stated Governor Ernie Fletcher. “I look forward to working with Mike and Secretary Bailey as we continue to move the Transportation Cabinet and our great Commonwealth forward.”

“I’m excited to be working within the Fletcher administration and for the Transportation Cabinet,” Goins said.  “Transportation plays an important role in economic development and improving the quality of life for our citizens, and I look forward to serving in my new role.”

Secretary Clay Bailey stated, “I look forward to working with Mike as we develop innovative ways to improve the Transportation Cabinet and address the needs of every Kentuckian. We are charged with developing a safe and reliable transportation system that promotes economic opportunities.”

Before coming to the Cabinet, Goins served as Director of Communications for the Ashland Alliance, the regional development partnership and chamber of commerce serving the City of Ashland, Boyd and Greenup Counties in northeast Kentucky.   Goins has also worked in television news at WSAZ-TV in Charleston-Huntington West Virginia and as Big Sandy Bureau Chief and a producer at WYMT-TV in Hazard.

Goins is a native of Cumberland and is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University.  He and his wife have one daughter, Meghan.  They currently reside in Russell in Greenup County but will be relocating to the Frankfort area.
