Governor Fletcher directs Major General Storm to visit Kentucky Guardsmen deployed in support of hurricane relief efforts
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher today directed Major General Donald C. Storm, Adjutant General for Kentucky, to visit Kentucky Army National Guard troops deployed in support of the humanitarian relief effort following Hurricane Katrina.
Major General Storm will depart Frankfort’s Capital City Airport tomorrow morning with Deputy Adjutant General Norman Arflack and State Command Sergeant Major Phillip Gearlds and tour the southern Mississippi and Louisiana regions where they will gauge the Kentucky Guard effort there and make plans for sustaining the continuing mission. The locations include:
- Lumberton, MS: visit with the 149th Brigade’s distribution operation
- Gulfport, MS: visit Kentucky Army Guard Brigadier General Lonnie Culver and command center
- Baton Rouge, LA: visit 123rd Security Squadron and 438 Military Police Company
EDITOR'S NOTE: Because of transportation/logistical limitations, media cannot be accommodated on tomorrow’s mission. However … a Kentucky National Guard photographer and videographer will accompany Maj. Gen. Storm on his visit. We will make the resulting images available sometime Wednesday morning.
We do hope to make a flight eventually for local media, but the current priority is to transport only essential personnel, equipment and supplies.
