Anderson County Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography
Attorney General Jack Conway and his Department of Criminal Investigations today announced the arrest of a Lawrenceburg man who had been at large following his indictment for possession of child pornography. The Anderson County Sheriff’s Department arrested 55-year-old Mark C. Whitaker on March 31, 2010 after receiving a tip from the public.
Whitaker’s whereabouts were unknown at the time of his indictment on March 29, 2010 on three counts of possession of matter portraying a sex performance by a minor, a Class D felony. His indictment is the result of a lengthy investigation by the Attorney General's Cybercrimes Unit.
Since its creation in June of 2008, Attorney General Conway’s Cybercrimes Unit has removed more than 55,000 child pornographic images and videos from the Internet and investigated more than 100 child pornography cases resulting in felony charges against 54 individuals.
A charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
