  • Attorney General Conway Announces $3.7 Million Settlement with Drug Company

    Attorney General Jack Conway today announced a $3.75 million settlement with drug manufacturer GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for deceptive or false marketing of the anti-nausea drugs Kytril and Zofran, among others. The settlement follows a January 27, 2010 decision by Franklin Circuit Judge Roger Crittenden to award the Commonwealth more than $5.8 million in civil penalties against GSK for violating Kentucky’s Consumer Protection Act.

    A Madison County grand jury indicted 42-year-old Ricky L. Fansler on 95 counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor, a Class D felony.
  • Attorney General Conway Names 2010 Outstanding Commonwealth's and County Attorneys

    Attorney General Jack Conway today presented the awards for the 2010 Outstanding Commonwealth's and County Attorneys at the Kentucky Prosecutor's Conference at the Lexington Convention Center. Nearly 800 prosecutors, Commonwealth's Attorneys, County Attorneys and staff from across Kentucky are attending the three-day conference sponsored by the Office of the Attorney General.
  • Attorney General Conway Announces Arrest of Bell County Man on Child Pornography Charges

    Attorney General Jack Conway and his Cybercrimes Unit today announced the arrest of a 22-year-old Bell County man on child pornography charges. Investigators from General Conway's Cybercrimes Unit arrested Jeremiah North, of Middlesboro, on August 24, 2010 on four counts of possession of matter portraying a sexual performance by a minor.
  • Two Somerset Caregivers Charged with Failure to Report Suspected Abuse

    Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control today announced that Sean Brennan, 41, and Kacie Carlson, 25, both caregivers at Community Alternatives of Kentucky (CAKY) in Somerset, have been charged with one count each of Failure to Report Suspected Abuse under KRS 209.030 in Pulaski County District Court. Both Brennan and Carlson reside in Somerset.
  • Former Madison Manor Nurse's Aide Sentenced in Patient Abuse Case

    Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control today announced the sentencing of Amanda Sallee, a former nurse's aide at Richmond Health and Rehabilitation Complex (Madison Manor) nursing home for neglecting to feed a patient in her care in August of 2008. Sallee, of Richmond, in Madison County, plead guilty in March 2010 to charges of wanton abuse and neglect of an adult under KRS 209.990.
  • Former Jefferson County Caregiver Charged with Wanton Endangerment

    Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control today announced that a former caregiver at Community Alternatives of Kentucky (CAKY) in Louisville is facing wanton endangerment charges for her treatment of two physically handicapped residents.
  • Attorney General Conway to Educate Kentuckians about Dangers of Prescription Drug Abuse and Cybercrimes at 2010 State Fair

    Attorney General Jack Conway today announced that his office will be educating people about prescription drug abuse and the dangers that lurk online at this year's Kentucky State Fair, which runs from August 19 to August 29 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center.
  • Jessamine County Man Pleads Guilty To Child Pornography Charges

    Attorney General Jack Conway, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Fayette County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office and the United States Attorney’s Office jointly announce the guilty plea in federal court today of 38-year-old Eric Bradley, of Jessamine County, to one count of receipt of child pornography.

    Attorney General Jack Conway today announced a $10 million settlement with drug manufacturer Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. and several affiliated corporations including IVAX Corporation, IVAX Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Sicor, Inc., Barr Laboratories, Inc. and Duramed Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
  • Johnson County Constable Pleads Guilty to Charges of "Doctor Shopping"

    Attorney General Jack Conway and his Drug Investigations Branch announce the guilty plea and sentencing of Johnson County Constable Terry Ward on charges he unlawfully obtained a prescription for a controlled substance by fraud, also known as "doctor shopping."
  • Attorney General Conway Announces Topix.Com Agreement That Stops "Pay-To-Police" Policy

    Attorney General Jack Conway led the effort to stop abuses by Topix.com and today, along with 34 attorneys general who signed on to support his efforts, announced that an agreement has been reached with the Internet message board host to improve consumer protections and eliminate the $19.99 fee to expedite review of abusive or inappropriate posts. The agreement is the result of an initiative led by General Conway, Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning to address consumer protection concerns with the popular website.

    Attorney General Jack Conway today announced that Hazard Nursing Home Inc. and its administrator, 61-year-old Sheila Noe of Hazard were charged with failure to report suspected abuse pursuant to KRS 209.030.
  • Attorney General Conway Announces Nine-year Prison Sentence for Convicted Child Pornographer

    Attorney General Jack Conway has announced a nine-year prison sentence for a convicted child pornographer from Bracken County. Ronald Peed, Jr., was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Covington, Ky. on July 23 on a charge of receiving child pornography. Peed will also be supervised by U.S. Probation for 15 years following his release from federal prison.

  • Attorney General Conway Announces Settlement with Professional Charitable Solicitor

    Attorney General Jack Conway today announced a settlement has been reached with Outreach Associates, Inc., a professional solicitor that fundraises in Kentucky for various charitable organizations, for failing to timely file documents that outline how the solicitor distributes the money it raises. An Assurance of Voluntary Compliance (AVC) filed Wednesday, July 21 in Franklin Circuit Court requires Outreach to file all of its outstanding financial documents within 10 days. As per the AVC, Outreach has also paid the Commonwealth $20,000 in penalties and costs.
  • Attorney General Conway Warns Against Price-Gouging in Wake of Recent Severe Thunderstorms, Flash Flooding

    Attorney General Jack Conway today put Kentucky businesses on notice that price-gouging will not be tolerated during times of emergency. Gov. Steve Beshear declared a state of emergency for the Commonwealth of Kentucky on Tuesday, July 21, 2010 after severe thunderstorms and deadly flash flooding in a number of Kentucky counties on July 17 and 20th. Gov. Beshear also signed an executive order to implement Kentucky's price-gouging laws statewide.

    Attorney General Jack Conway warns consumers that sweepstakes and lottery scams are on the rise in Kentucky. General Conway's Office of Consumer Protection receives several calls a day from consumers who have either received a notification that they have won a prize or who have wired money and are now victims of a sweepstakes or lottery-related scam.
