Governor and First Lady Unveil "My Old Kentucky Tree"
FRANKFORT, Ky. – Governor Ernie Fletcher and First Lady Glenna Fletcher unveiled "My Old Kentucky Tree" tonight at the Capitol.
Every county judge executive across the state was asked to pick a local artisan to make an ornament to represent their county or to tie into the children’s book "Silver Packages" by Cynthia Rylant. Nearly 60 counties participated in this first-of-its-kind tree.
"This tree represents a lot of Kentucky history and tradition coming together to celebrate the holidays and the many achievements this great Commonwealth has acquired since 1792," said Mrs. Fletcher.
The tree will be on display on the second floor of the Capitol throughout the month of December during normal Capitol hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday; and 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission is always free to the public. Please note the Capitol will be closed Dec. 23, 26, 30 and 31.
