FRANKFORT, Ky. – First Lady Glenna Fletcher addressed the importance of raising heart health awareness and encouraging healthy lifestyles in a keynote speech at the Women’s Heart Health Luncheon at the Bellefonte Center in Ashland.  The luncheon is sponsored by the American Heart Association and Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

February is Kentucky Heart Health Month and Mrs. Fletcher is urging Kentuckians to show support for women and the fight against heart disease.  The First Lady kicked off Kentucky Heart Health Month by observing Go Red for Women Day on Friday, February 3.   The American Heart Association established Go Red for Women in 2004 as a national heart disease awareness campaign.  In recognition of Go Red for Women, the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort was illuminated in red the first week of February.

Mrs. Fletcher has made the health of Kentucky’s citizens one of her primary focuses.  The Get Healthy Kentucky initiative was recently launched as an effort to promote overall health improvement among Kentuckians.  For information on the initiative, including diet and physical activity tips, visit the Get Healthy Kentucky Web site at
