FRANKFORT, Ky. – First Lady Glenna Fletcher partnered with the Louisville Metro Women Build committee today to participate in “First Spouses Building Homes Across America,” a Habitat for Humanity Women Build project.  Mrs. Fletcher and her staff were joined by Education Cabinet Secretary Laura Owens, Public Service Commission Vice Chairman Teresa Hill and Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Deputy Secretary Teresa Barton.

“I'm proud to support and participate in Women Build, a program that empowers women to be part of the solution to poverty housing,” said Mrs. Fletcher.  “Through this Habitat for Humanity program and with Lowe’s continued support, we can make a significant difference in the lives of many women.  I encourage women across Kentucky to join me in this effort.”

Women Build is a Habitat for Humanity program that enables women from every economic level to come together to make homeownership a reality.  The Women Build program launched its first initiative, called First Ladies Build, in 1999.  With the leadership of first spouses in each state, women crews have built at least one house in each state every year.  Lowe’s is a partner in the program, providing grants for the Women Build projects.

Women volunteers began construction on the Louisville home with a “Raise the Roof” event in early June.  Dedication is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, 2006.
