First Lady Glenna Fletcher Joins Girl Scouts at Capital Extravaganza
FRANKFORT, Ky. – First Lady Glenna Fletcher spoke today to an estimated 1,100 Girl Scouts from across the commonwealth and southern Indiana in Frankfort to celebrate The Action Girl Scouts (TAGS) Capital Extravaganza.
TAGS is an exciting new program available to all Girl Scouts leaders in the state of Kentucky, and in parts of Indiana, Ohio and Tennessee. The goal of the initiative is to emphasize the importance of healthy living, fitness, nutrition and body image.
“I commend the Girl Scouts for initiating the TAGS program,” First Lady Glenna Fletcher said. “This program is complementary to the governor’s Get Healthy Kentucky program. It is never too early to begin teaching young people lifelong healthy living skills.”
While in Frankfort, troops had the opportunity to participate in a fun run, song fest, health fair, awards ceremony and various dance workshops. Also, there were food demonstrations, giveaways, sports and even a puppet show.
Many of the troops came to the event to celebrate completion of the TAGS patch requirements. Requirements for the patch are specifically designed to lead girls through fun exercises and educational programs that teach healthy living skills.
“TAGS teaches healthy and fun habits that prevent the problems before they even start,” Mrs. Fletcher said. “I hope next year’s event is even bigger.”
