Frankfort, KY:     First Lady Glenna Fletcher celebrated Earth Day with the second and third grade students from Second St. Elementary school today. The Read to Achieve Celebrity Earth Day event is part of a statewide Earth Day campaign organized for the first time by state government.

Several government celebrities participated in this event, reading to over 125 students throughout the day. Mrs. Fletcher shared with the students one of her favorite nature-related books,”The Salamander Room”.

“Increasing our awareness and care for the environment and people through reading is a great way for our children to learn,” stated the First Lady of Kentucky.

This Earth Day event complements the Read to Achieve legislation supported by the Governor and the First Lady. This legislation, SB 100, creates the framework that will give all students the opportunity to read proficiently by the end of third grade.
