Celebrity reading event to celebrate Earth Day in Kentucky

Frankfort, KY:  First Lady Glenna Fletcher was one of several state government leaders who participated in the celebrity reading event today to celebrate Earth Day in Kentucky.  This special event was held at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort, KY.

Mrs. Fletcher read Stickeen:  John Muir and the Brave Little Dog which captured the eyes and ears of the Second Street School sixth graders with this beautifully written and illustrated book.

“This is a wonderful time to bring together two very important issues:  literacy and our environment,” stated Mrs. Fletcher. “Teaching our children about our environment by reading them a story they can identify with will give them an understanding of how precious our environment is.”

Other celebrity readers who took part in reading an environmental-themed book to students during this special event included Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet Secretary LaJuana Wilcher, and Commerce Cabinet Jim Host.

First Lady Glenna Fletcher is committed to working with the issues she feels will make a difference in the lives of Kentucky families. The health of Kentuckians and the education of our children are two of her primary focuses. Get Healthy Kentucky!, Read to Achieve, Go Red for Women, and the Kentucky Cancer Program are just a few of many initiatives the First Lady supports. Join her to work together to make Kentucky a better place to live and raise a family—to improve literacy rates, our health statistics and continue our rich heritage for future generations of Kentuckians.
