Attorney General Stumbo Negotiates Five Million Dollar Cut to Kentucky-American Water Rate Increase
Attorney General Greg Stumbo today signed a settlement agreement with Kentucky-American Water Company which reduces a requested rate increase by approximately 40 percent. The agreement limits Kentucky-American to a general increase of $8 million, a decrease of $5.2 million from its original request.
“My office fights every day to keep rates as low as possible,” said Stumbo. “We will continue to challenge every effort by utility companies when they ask for excessive increases.”
In addition to reducing its rate increase, Kentucky-American has also agreed to increase its corporate donations to the Help to Others Program. Donations will now total $50,000 to assist low-income customers in paying their bills.
The Public Service Commission, which must approve the settlement, will hold a hearing on the matter on September 18, 2007.
Kentucky-American serves over 118,000 customers in 11 counties.
