Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that agents from the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation (KBI), along with deputies from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, spread out across Bell County serving warrants on 13 individuals for drug trafficking, including marijuana, cocaine and prescription medication. More arrests are expected.

A three month joint undercover operation in Pineville, Kentucky, uncovered drug trafficking (1st and 2nd degree), trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of a school, trafficking in marijuana and trafficking in a simulated substance (selling over-the-counter medication as prescription drugs.) The charges include Class D felonies punishable by up to five years in prison and Class C felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

“It is unfortunate that drug use and abuse is so prevalent in a rural community like Pineville,” said Attorney General Stumbo.  “During my campaign I promised to ‘make pushers pay’ and I am fulfilling that promise with drug round ups like the one today. It is critical to public safety, and the safety of our children, to get drug traffickers off the streets and behind bars.”

The arrested individuals are being held in the Bell County Detention Center.

“I applaud the courageous undercover work done by KBI agents and Sheriff Bruce Bennett and his deputies in Bell County,” Stumbo added.
