Tuesday, June 12, 2007 Attorney General Greg Stumbo today announced the settlement of a civil lawsuit against the makers of the popular oral contraceptive product Ovcon. The lawsuit, jointly filed by thirty-three other states and the District of Columbia, charged Warner Chilcott and Barr Pharmaceuticals with antitrust violations that have prevented generic versions of Ovcon from reaching the marketplace, thereby decreasing competition and inflating consumers’ costs.

Post bankruptcy, Friedman’s now has 427 jewelry stores in 20 states, including 29 stores in Kentucky.

Wednesday, June 07, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that Matthew Gordon Hunt, of Ft. Thomas, was sentenced yesterday to five years incarceration and $65,000 restitution. In April, Hunt, age 31, pleaded guilty in Campbell County Court to six felony counts relating to his involvement in an international telemarketing scam that stole millions of dollars from victims across the country. The counts include four felony telemarketing counts and two felony counts of receiving stolen property. Hunt’s brother, Brian J. Hunt, also pleaded guilty to related felony charges on January 10, 2006. His sentence will be imposed in September of this year.

Wednesday, May 31, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that agents from the Kentucky Bureau of Investigation (KBI), along with deputies from the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, spread out across Bell County serving warrants on 13 individuals for drug trafficking, including marijuana, cocaine and prescription medication. More arrests are expected.
- Attorney General Stumbo Announces Agreement with Norwalk Furniture Corporation
Friday, May 26, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that an agreement has been reached with Norwalk Furniture Corporation of Norwalk, Ohio whereby the corporation will fulfill outstanding furniture orders placed by approximately 82 customers of the Lexington, Kentucky Norwalk franchise store located in Hamburg Place. The operator of that franchise, Danny Hillard, abruptly closed the business earlier this month and the Attorney General’s Office has received nearly two dozen complaints from consumers who made deposits but have not received furniture.
- Attorney General Stumbo Warns Gas Pill Marketers to Cease Sales Efforts
Thursday, May 25, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo today issued cease and desist warning letters to Kentucky distributors of Bioperformance, a so called “gas pill” which marketers claim improves fuel efficiency when added to the gasoline tank. The letter warns distributors that further efforts to distribute the pills in Kentucky may subject them to possible civil and criminal liability for theft and violation of the state pyramid sales act.

Wednesday, May 24, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo today issued a consumer alert to Kentucky veterans and their families following the theft of 26.5 million veterans’ personal data announced yesterday by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The stolen data contained identifying information including names, social security numbers, and dates of birth for veterans and some spouses, as well as some disability ratings.

The petition asks the federal agency to close a loophole that allows tobacco manufacturers to pass off cigarettes wrapped in brown paper as “little cigars.”

- Attorney General Stumbo Announces More Welfare Fraud Indictments
Monday, May 08, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo announced today that two more state employees have been indicted by a Franklin County Special Grand Jury on a total of 45 felony charges of Assistance Program Fraud. Since the Special Grand Jury began hearing evidence in the welfare fraud case in March, ten individuals have been indicted on a total of 136 felony counts. These cases account for approximately $145,000 stolen from the state welfare system.

- Guilty Plea of Campbell County Man Involved in International Telemarketing Scam
Friday, April 28, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo today announced a guilty plea entered by Matthew Gordon Hunt, of Ft. Thomas, on six felony counts relating to the Defendant’s involvement in an international telemarketing scam that stole millions of dollars from victims across the country. Hunt was arrested and indicted in December.

Thursday, April 27, 2006 Attorney General Greg Stumbo today hosted the 15th annual Kentucky Crime Victims’ Rights Day Rally in the Rotunda of the State Capitol. The featured speaker was Beth Holloway Twitty, mother of 18-year-old Natalee Holloway who disappeared on the last night of her senior graduation trip in Aruba in May, 2005. Ms. Twitty’s poignant story has captured international attention.
