- Secretary Grimes Announces State Board of Elections Special Meeting
Friday, May 18, 2012 Kentucky’s Secretary of State and Chief Election Official, Alison Lundergan Grimes, announced today that the State Board of Elections will be in session from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on May 22, 2012, and it will conduct a special board meeting at 1:00 p.m. on that date.
- Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board approves eight properties for listing in the National Register
Friday, May 18, 2012 The Kentucky Historic Preservation Review Board approved eight sites for listing in the National Register of Historic Places during a meeting Thursday at Spindletop Hall. Approved sites included Spindletop Farm and Springview Farm in Fayette County, the Bybee House in Glasgow, the “Raccoon” John Smith House in Owingsville, the C&O Railway Depot in Catlettsburg, an expansion of the Jefferson Street-Fountain Avenue Residential District in Paducah, and a Lustron House and Jefferson Jacob School in Metro Louisville.
- Kentucky to Join $90 Million Medicaid Suit against Healthpoint, Ltd.
Friday, May 18, 2012 Attorney General Jack Conway and his Office of Medicaid Fraud and Abuse Control announced today that Kentucky will intervene in a civil lawsuit against Healthpoint, Ltd. in United States District Court, District of Massachusetts. The Commonwealth's motion to intervene in the $90 million whistleblower lawsuit was granted on May 16, 2012.
- KHS and KDE Receive Grant for Literacy Leaders Academy
Friday, May 18, 2012 FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 18, 2012) — The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) and Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) have received a $20,000 grant from the Midwest Regional Center for Teaching with Primary Sources. The grant will fund a Literacy Leaders Academy for history and social studies teachers June 19-21 at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in downtown Frankfort.

- Grimes Predicts Low Voter Turnout; Encourages Voters to Make Voices Heard
Thursday, May 17, 2012 With fewer than half of the federal and state legislative offices on the ballot in 2012 having primaries, Secretary of State and Chief Election Official Alison Lundergan Grimes predicts statewide voter turnout in the May 22nd Primary Election will be between 10 and 12 percent. “Comparing current absentee voting statistics to information from past presidential election years in which an incumbent has been seeking a second term, it appears turnout will be slightly lower this year,” said Grimes. “But I will continue to use my best efforts to encourage all eligible Kentuckians to exercise the right and fulfill their responsibility to vote, and I hope turnout is actually higher.”

- Mandatory motor vehicle insurance notices to begin statewide in June
Thursday, May 17, 2012 FRANKFORT, Ky. (May 17, 2012) – As mandated by the Kentucky Legislature, uninsured motorists across the Commonwealth will begin receiving notices in June that registrations for their personal vehicles will be canceled if they do not obtain required insurance or show proof of existing insurance.
- Chief Justice Minton elected to 2nd term as chief justice of Kentucky
Thursday, May 17, 2012 The justices of the Supreme Court of Kentucky have unanimously voted to elect Chief Justice John D. Minton Jr. to a second term as chief justice. The four-year term begins June 27, 2012.
- Degrees and credentials climb 4% in 2011-12
Thursday, May 17, 2012 Kentucky’s public and independent colleges and universities conferred a record 63,000 degrees and credentials during the 2011-12 academic year, representing an overall increase of 4 percent over last year.
